1 Hundred Acre Vineyard is located in Ann Arbor, MI. Originally owned by Henry and Hilda Wessel who kept the farm operating during the depression by selling potatoes to the University of Michigan frat houses for .014 cents per pound.
Current owns Mike and Lisa O'Connell are converting some of the acreage to take advantage of the rolling hillsides in the Washtenaw County grape zone. Lisa spends time researching and growing distinctive, uniquely suited varieties of grapes that grow in harsh winter climates to serve to Michigan wineries.
Mike and Lisa support green efforts in self sustaining renewable energy to power the agricultural aspects of the farm and their home. Mike's engineering experience as a has given him a unique insight into the needs and the understanding the farms design to incorporate LEEDS insulation, solar power, and geo thermal systems.
